Tiny houses are cute, but that’s about it. When the brochures and websites are selling a lifestyle you know the financials are shaky.

Not really built for the highway (public domain, Wikipedia)

Tiny houses are really very expensive, especially when you take into account what you don’t get. New constructions costs can vary and its well known that the kitchen and the bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in the house. But over all new regular size home construction with bathrooms and a kitchen runs about $100 to $155 per square foot. It varies greatly where you live, obviously North Shore Long Island vs Western South Carolina have vastly different construction costs. Tiny home construction costs roughly average $150 per square foot, without plumbing for a kitchen or bathroom. Tiny house living is dense living, so costs per square foot are higher. The tradeoff or saving grace is that Tiny Houses are 400 sq or so.

They really don’t like to be moved. Yes, it may sound great the lifestyle of moving your house cross country every year. But, you’ll need a big truck or hauling rig to do so, with lousy gas mileage and your tiny house isn’t really made for highway speeds, it is not very aerodynamic and cross winds will cause you to nervously watch your side mirrors to see if your dream home on wheels is about to blow over. All that bouncing around and swaying wrecks havoc on the joints and fittings that hold your home together, the house…
