BTC being the first had no predecssors to learn from. There are some "greener" coins. I diversified my crypto holding to 7 coins, one of which is BTC. The other 6 do at least one thing better than BTC and they all consume a lot less power. All the 6 have outperformed BTC in the last month.

China for various reasons, not the least of which is very cheap power and close promixity to custom ASIC foundries. Has a huge presence in cryptos. I've seen some cryptos where China based addresses control over 60% of a coin float. ASICs are computer chips that customizied to a single purpose. You can't mine/make (at a profit) many cryptos with out a specialized ASIC.
